International Media Art and  Experimental Film Festival

Responding to rapid changes and new possibilities inherent in the presentation of time-based art works, internationally acclaimed media art festival Antimatter opens this October 14th, with an enlarged component of expanded cinema performance as well as public art installations. The 19th edition of Antimatter [media art] will allow Victoria audiences to experience more than 160 single channel video and fi lm works from more than 30 countries.

Held over 15 days, Antimatter features 20 curated programs of short films and video, the majority of which are World or Canadian premieres. In addition to screenings, performances and installations, Antimatter hosts media salons during the festival, informal and open forums where the public can engage with visiting and local artists and festival organizers.

The special exhibition „kernel panic“, curated by Deborah de Boer and Todd Eacrett, explores questions in relation to the man/machine interface. If this connection becomes the continuum where art is made, then how do we gauge success or failure? How do we (re)engage with the new poetics of representation? The five artists whose works comprise this exhibition are part of the vanguard harnessing concepts of analog to digital conversion and the visual representation of pure data to create a new consideration of the machine aesthetic in the digital age.

Antimatter Media Art Festival will be open to visitors from 14 October until 29 October 2016, with performances, screenings taking place at the Deluge Contemporary Art gallery in Victoria, British Colombia, Canada.
