NEW REALITIES BY MOVING IMAGE IMMERSIVE MEDIA
Alt Art Space Hosts Special Exhibition in Istanbul
Moving Image Immersive Media showcases special exhibition 'New Realities' in Istanbul, Turkey, featuring an international group of artists creating works in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), referred to together as 'immersive media'. Addressing concerns such as how we perceive the world around us and what it means to choose one’s own reality, the artists in 'New Realities' are at the forefront of a new fine art medium. As such they are collectively defining the emerging metaphors, vocabularies and ethics involved, but doing so by showing the viewer amazing new worlds or new ways to see and think about what “reality” means.
The works in the exhibition include a range of immersive technologies, from geo-located AR works to motion-sensing VR works that respond to the viewers’ body movements. Many of the works have been created or modified specifically for this exhibition, including 'Bomonti and AR', by John Craig Freeman which works only in a especially prepared exhibition space.
Moving Image Immersive Media is a new arm of the Moving Image art fair, based in New York. Moving Image art fair was co-founded by Murat Orozobekov and Edward Winkleman in 2011 and was conceived to offer a viewing experience with the excitement and vitality of a fair, while allowing moving image-based artworks to be understood and appreciated on their own terms.
Alt Art Space in Istanbul presents visual arts, performance and public programs, collaborating across disciplines and cultures. Alt embraces and shares new forms of artistic expression that respond both to global concerns and changing conditions on the ground.
The exhibition 'New Realities' is open to visitors from 23 September until 25 September 2016 at the center of bomontiada, a historic beer factory. Opening Hours: Friday and Saturday, 13:00-21:00; Sunday 11:00-19:00
