TORONTO ART FAIR

Review on Three Days of Art and Urban Culture

Art Toronto has again drawn many art lovers and artists to Canada. Founded in 2000, Art Toronto is Canada’s international fair for modern and contemporary art. Providing unique access to the Canadian art market, the fair is one of the most important annual art events in Canada. In its 17th year, Art Toronto presented important artwork from leading Canadian and international galleries as well as curated projects, an extensive VIP Program, and top-tier cultural offerings throughout the city

In four different sections, visitors were invited to explore contemporary art. ‘Verge’ was dedicated to galleries that have been in business for eight years or less that presented work by young and emerging artists made in the past five years. In ‘Main’, established galleries showcased their works, including more than seventy premier modern and contemporary galleries from Canada, the United States, France, Germany, Belgium, United Kingdom, Switzerland and Israel. The third section was ‘Solo’, a space where galleries had the chance to showcase solo exhibition of a single artist’s work.

Besides, Art Toronto continued its exploration of art from Latin America with a second installment of the section ‘Focus’. This presentation of art work from Latin America, curated by Isabela Villanueva, was accompanied by a selection of galleries from the region. The curated exhibition covers many themes, but a major through-line is an examination of public space and how artists from around the continent respond to, and intervene in public spaces in their cities.

Besides the exhibitions, Art Toronto also organized a series of talks on various topics. PLATFORM, an extended program of lectures, included presentations of prominent art world figures and panel discussions.
