THE FIFTH

From 27 - 30 September 2018, the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair will present 74 selected  international galleries with their most striking artistic positions in contemporary and modern  art as part of Berlin Art Week.

The fair

Since the founding of POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair in 2014, the organizers have been pursuing a concept that combines a formally classic fair structure with the ambition of expanding the spectrum of art on display in Berlin. Since then, not only contemporary art has been presented at the Positions fairs, but also that of classical modernism or earlier epochs. Established artistic positions can be seen alongside works by young artists, links can be made visible and visitors of the Berlin Art Week are invited to discover and rediscover. The main focus is on the quality, relevance and topicality of the presented art and with it on the important and good work of the presenting galleries as observers, mediators and promoters.

The aim of the fair is to show outstanding works of art from different periods and to offer galleries the easiest possible access to the market. Young collectors are not excluded either and will find a good level of entry at POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair. Accordingly, the exhibitions in the booths are complemented by an extensive mediation programme, which addresses and involves everyone individually, from collector groups and institutions to normal trade fair visitors and children.

Next Stop: Tempelhof!

For its fifth edition, POSITIONS Berlin moves to Hangar 4 at the former Berlin-Tempelhof Airport, which, as Europe‘s largest monument, the site of the Berlin Airlift and more than 50 years of civil air traffic, has long been a symbol of freedom and a stage for openness to the world and international exchange. In September, it is transformed into a hotspot for art and, with its monumental architecture and its eventful history, it becomes an auratic environment for artistic presentations.

Responsible for the design of the fair - also in the newest location of POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair - is the Leise Design Studio from Frankfurt am Main, which guarantees a clear, aesthetic and yet unpretentious appearance responding to the special architecture of the hangar and guaranteeing an easy orientation for the visitors, in which the art can be seen at the the center of attention.

The Art

In 2018, works by more than 250 artists will be presented at the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair by galleries from countries such as Italy, Switzerland, the USA, Canada, China or the United States and Germany. (AV17) Gallery and Meno Nisa Gallery from Vilnius as well as Meno Parkas from Kaunas and Maksla XO from Riga will come from the Baltic States. New as an

exhibitor this year is the gallery Exgirlfriend from Berlin with sculptures of the young Spanish

Mit Borrás and installations by the Omsk Social Club, whose works are also shown in the Gropius Bau and the Badischer Kunstverein in 2018. Galerie Susanne Albrecht presents paintings by the Vienna-based artist Michaela Ghisetti and Antonella Gattani Contemporary Art from Bolzano brings the latest works by artist Julia Bornefeld to the fair.

Young female artists like Antje Zeiher and Viktoria Strecker are introduced by Judith Andreae from

Bonn. Works by Jan Ros and Felix Dobbert, among others, will be on display in the booth of Galerie Rasche Ripken from Berlin, also taking part in the POSITIONS Berlin Art Fair for the first time. Dobberts works have already been shown in Hamburg‘s Deichtorhallen this year.

Amorphous sculptures by Dorothea Reese-Heim are presented by the Beijing XC.HuA Gallery and latest neon works by Gunda Förster are shining on the walls of Von&Von Gallery from Nuremberg. While works by established artists of the 20th century can be found with Sigmar Polke at Kunsthandlung Osper from Cologne with Joseph Beuys, Georg Baselitz, Max Pechstein and Dieter Roth at Kunsthandel Draheim from Eltville, Alexander Kunkel from Munich has specialized in the 19th century. He shows selected works by Dodo, Otto Dix, George Grosz and others on the subject of the grotesque.
