BFF turns 50 - Special exhibition

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the BFF - Berufsverband Freie Fotografen und Filmgestalter e. V. and after the successful start of the exhibition tour in Stuttgart's Haus der Wirtschaft, the four remarkable exhibitions can be seen in Berlin from 9 August 2019. On 6 June 2019, the renowned photographers Thomas Billhardt (* 1937) and Volker Hinz (* 1947) were admitted to the BFF Hall of Fame. Both created unique and unforgettable images of the 20th century: while Billhardt stands for the representation of the GDR and its socialist brother countries, Hinz is regarded as a documentarist of the FRG and the West. A selection of her iconic works is shown in each case in the form of a solo exhibition.
The group exhibition "Icons" meanwhile shows 100 works by the best-known BFF members and honorary members. In addition to the existing BFF collection, pictorial icons from recent decades have been collected for this purpose, including works by Andreas Feininger, F.C. Gundlach, Esther Haase, Hans Hansen, Thomas Hoepker, Herlinde Koelbl, Walter Schels, Oliviero Toscani, Christian von Alvensleben and many others.
The fourth presentation, entitled "Your Signature - das bleibt", brings together the photographic works of 144 BFF members and thus provides an excellent overview of the diversity of content and the homogeneous quality of the works created in the BFF series. Photography as an uprising against transience, the moment for eternity against erosion and wear, inflation and economic cycles, fashions and trends, age and (re-)birth. Images for which there is no tomorrow, no today and no yesterday - images that remain.
Each exhibition station is complemented by a detailed supporting programme, which includes lectures by professional photographers, symposia with various experts and guided exhibition tours with renowned photographers. About the BFF: On 18 January 1969 the founding members Albrecht Brugger, Robert Häusser, Franz Lazi, Mark Mender, Willi Moegle, Dr. Wolf Strache, Friedhelm Volk, Ludwig Windstosser and Lautenbacher themselves met in Walter E. Lautenbacher's Stuttgart studio. Out of the necessity to create a strong representation of interests also for freelance photographers, the BFF constituted itself as the "Bund Freischaffender Fotografen", since 2013 as the "Berufsverband Freie Fotografen und Filmgestalter". As an association, the BFF looks after the interests of freelancers, is the contact point for legal questions and offers a network to other professional associations. The BFF currently has around 530 members. The BFF unites photographers, especially from the fields of advertising and editorial, as well as selected film designers and university lecturers for photography and media, who together shape the profile and orientation of the association. To this day, the BFF guarantees the highest quality in the fields of photography, film and image design.
