Annett Sobotta

AFRICA INSPIRED

With her paintings Annett Sobotta brings beauty to life. Her paintings are light, cheerful and full of vitality. All her creations are soft and lyrical; whether she paints figures, animals, flowers or abstract compositions.

They are works of arts that can be enjoyed time and time again, whatever the mood or season. Created from floods of visions and pictures from her own personal universe, from a never-ending wellspring of life which regenerates itself as it flows.

When entering her world the viewer often feels torn as the dynamics of the expression and the decorative harmony of her art almost seem like a contradiction. Annett Sobotta has created her own aesthetic world full of spirituality, fantasy and colour.

One typical characteristic in her paintings is that the objects are always taken out of their real surroundings, no matter what the initial inspiration for the motive was or how it develops during the process until a piece is completed. In the mind of the viewer, questions arise when the object in a painting almost resembles a comic strip and at the same time the painting in its entirety is crystal clear and almost hyper-real.

A number of her paintings have been greatly influenced by the impressions and experiences gained during her stays in South Africa. Since 2002 she has frequently been visiting the African continent until she finally moved the centre of her life and her main residence to Cape Town in 2006.

With her creations, Annett Sobotta seduces us in the most positive way possible. She aims to confront this global society, which is caught up in its own norms, rules and regulations and which has become so materialistic. Her paintings are meant to prompt us to pause just for a little longer, finding our inner calm and overcoming our own restlessness. Intensive viewing of her paintings leads to discovering true happiness within the secret of beauty and contentedness of our own mind, reflected through the mirror of her art.

ARTIST VITA

Annett Sobotta was born in 1966 in Germany.

With her unleashing creativity and a character which was striving for freedom a life for her within the East German dictatorship was not an option. Even before the fall of the Berlin wall she managed to leave East Germany in 1986.

During 1990 and 1996 she studied at the university of arts "Hochschule der Künste" (HdK) in Berlin (with professor Fußmann) for several years.

Following numerous study stays in other European countries, she joined the artist association „Art Kontor Frankfurt“ and „Art Centre Aschaffenburg“ in 1997. Besides classical painting, main focuses of her work were also the creation of sculptures and plastics.

In 2004 Annett Sobotta opened her own gallery for modern art in Wiesbaden/ Germany.
