ART IN APPS

Top 3 Game-Apps about Art

Whether serving for education or only the pure pleasure - apps which are about art, are suitable for all those who are interested in art and would like to make use of the mobile and digital version of a game. There are now numerous applications developed by creative minds that allow the user to get education taught in a fun way or even be a part of a work of art and immerse themselves in an artistic and fantastic world.

We have examined the most innovative and interesting game apps in the field of art for you and compiled three of our most popular games in our Top 3.

1) BeyArs Quiz: Visual Arts Lite © 2009 BeyArs GmbH, Vivid Planet Software GmbH

BeyArs offers an entertaining art quiz with the app "Fine art Lite". More than 200 questions on the subject of art are waiting for the user. Based on leaderboards you can compete with other players which are interested in art. The questions are based on the large art encyclopedia of PW Hartmann, which is offered by the platform BeyArs art online. The questions have been carefully compiled and reviewed. Sometimes they are very demanding, by this the quiz will challenge the user often. However, at the end of each question, a comprehensive explanatory text and a link to the entry of the art lexicon can be found, through which one can expand his knowledge of art steadily.

Free for iPhone and iPad.

2) Polyfauna by Radiohead © Ticker Tape Ltd.

The app "Polyfauna" for which the band Radiohead has developed illustrations and music together with the graphic studio Universal Everything, is an interactive work of art and at the same time a fantasy landscape in which new worlds and creatures can be discovered. The user makes a unique journey through sounds and landscapes that seem to be inspired by paintings of William Turner and Peter Doig. The art app which is actually more an experience than a game builds a fascinating atmosphere and lets users immerse in an artificial world through the integration of images and sounds, which are taken from the song "Bloom" by Radiohead.

Free for iOS and Android.

3) Race Against Time by Tate Gallery © 2011 Developed by Something 'Else for Tate Modern

The Tate Modern has made from one century of art history a simple but very entertaining platformer game. A chameleon jumps through the wide variety of artistic styles that seeks for paint bombs and has to face the reoccurring opponents. One playfully gets to know artists and their works from 121 years of modern history of art and thereby receives the feeling that we could save the world.

Free for iPhone and iPad.
