Focus on the Art of the Canary Islands
The Canary Islands or Canaries are an island group and autonomous community of Spain located on the Atlantic Ocean, 100 kilometres west of Morocco. The most important tourist centres are located on the islands Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, Tenerife and Fuerteventura. The newspaper "Canarias7" even noted the year 2015 as the "record year 2015" with 13, 3 million visitors to be recorded.
The high influx of tourists is not only due to the landscape diversity and the scenic beauty. It is especially the art and culture of the Canaries that has its charm. In addition to traditional festivals the Canary Islands offer a variety of interesting museums and art festivals.
In the following special Art-Scene.TV presents the three main islands Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife with their respective art scenes. Further exhibitions, fairs and events about the Canaries will follow!
GRAN CANARIA - NÉSTOR: Modern Sensuousness on the Canary Islands
Néstor Martín-Fernández de la Torre is known as the most important painter of the Canary Islands. Since the 1950s his self-designed architectural park "Pueblo Canario" houses the "Museo Néstor", which is dedicated to the oeuvre of Néstor and shows his most important paintings but also works in the fields of theater, decoration and design.
LANZAROTE- MANRIQUE: Battle against Architectural Eyesore of Mass Tourism
On the Canary Islands the visitor comes across the name César Manrique (April 24, 1919-September 25, 1992) in many places. Born in Lanzarote and as painter, sculptor, architect and multidisciplinary artist, he has preserved and made shine the natural beauties of his home island - on this all islanders do agree.
TENERIFFA GRAFFITI: International Stars on the Canary Islands
The old city of Puerto de la Cruz in the North of Tenerife surprises with graffiti of internationally renowned artists. Since 2014 the Street Art Festival has taken place in Puerto de la Cruz.
Thus, mural paintings of various styles from many different subject areas came in to being in the historical quarter situated right beside the sea. In a one-hour walk one can discover the art works of the open-air museum. Artists from Europe, the Spanish mainland and the Canaries have immortalized themselves.
